The polar bear is a huge animal and is almost as big as the grizzly bears of America. The polar bear has a huge appetite and eats nearly 40 to 50 kilograms of meat everyday. It measures around five feet or more when it stands on two legs and on all the four legs it can measure up to three feet. The polar bear easily weight 1,800 pounds.
It has a thick coat of fur covering its body except the tip of the nose. They have thick layers of skin underneath the fur which helps them to keep warm in the cold weather. The polar bears can swim in extremely cold or freezing waters, like under the ice for example. They are carnivorous animals and hunt various kinds of fish, seals and walrus for food.
The polar bear prefers to live on ice. They usually travel to areas where they can easily find their preys. The polar bears walk a lot during the day in search of food. They move from one part of the region to another. The polar bears are loners, and like to live alone except in the mating season. The polar bears are not territorial and they can literally live anywhere the food is available. However, currently due to global warming and the melting ice the polar bears are moving deeper into the Arctic Circle. It is more difficult for them to find food here. The global warming can be one of the biggest reasons for the decreasing numbers of the polar bear.
