The polar bears are the biggest land animals on earth. They eat huge amounts of food to survive. The polar bear is a carnivorous animal and needs large quantity of meat to survive. They need a lot of fat which is found in mammals and also have excessive need of calorie intake. They love to eat seals, which are their energy food and are also very good for growing cubs and the mother bears. So, the polar bears mainly hunt seals.

One polar bear can easily eat one seal. They mainly eat the fat from the seals body. Sometimes bears also eat carcasses of dead whales. The favorite food for bears is ringed seals and bearded seals. Polar bears also attack walruses which are equally aggressive, but if they do manage to kill one, then they do not have to worry about their food for a long period of time.

However, all kinds of bears that exist on the planet are scavengers and they will just about anything from herbs, berries, roots, plants to animals. Polar bears are no different. They travel extensively in search of food and they always like to have it easy. When there is no seal or sea food available, the polar settles down for penguins, reindeer, musk ox, sea birds, rodents and even human garbage. However, polar bears do not always find human garbage as hardly any humans live in the places they live in. Polar bears are also known to eat fish and fish eggs also when the food is scarce.

It can be said without a doubt that polar bears are known to be great survivors with excellent adaptation skills.
