Want a duckling as your pet? If yes, then the most important aspect to remember is that these little birds require a lot of attention and care unlike other animals. They are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations. It is necessary to keep them in an incubator initially for a few days before letting them out in the open.
If the ducklings have just hatched, it will take at least four to five hours for them to dry up completely. Keeping them in an incubator at 90 degrees becomes crucial at this stage. Make a home for your little ducklings. A small box would be just perfect. You can also place a small lamp or a bulb (40 Watts) and switch it on. This will create enough warmth in the box, keeping your ducklings’ warm and cozy inside. The ducklings tend to sleep for long hours and generally huddle together during cooler climatic conditions. They are more active during warmer seasons so do not be too surprised with drastic changes in their behavior.
Feeding these little birds with the right kind of food is crucial. You can give them a highly nutritious chick starter feed initially. Place the feed in a small bowl and allow the ducklings to eat whenever they feel like. Ducks love water. You can place your little duckling in a small bowl of water. But do not place a huge bowl because chances of drowning are very high.
Ducks grow at an extremely fast pace. In a matter of weeks, they are ready to paddle in your pond outdoors!
