Well, it is not necessary that all breeds of beagle will get these diseases. It is therefore advisable to buy this breed of dog from a renowned breeder. Cherry eye begins in the corners of the eyes and swells up just before the ear. The eyes become teary due to inflammation. The name cherry eye has been given because of the fact that the eyes swells up to two to three times and turns bight red in color resembling a cherry. These symptoms are no doubt inevitable and prominent hence, should be immediately reported to a vet.
Hyperthyroidism in beagles occurs due to insufficient production of hormone thyroid to regulate certain metabolic functions of the body. Reasons of hyperthyroidism cannot be ascertained it can be attributed to various reasons like compromised immune system, side effects of medicines or presence of toxins in the atmosphere. The symptoms are weight gain, lethargy, dry skin and loss of hair.
Mitral Stenosis is type of genetic heart ailment in which the mitral valves are weak and result in the blood to flow in opposite direction giving rise to an enlarged heart. Unfortunately the symptoms are visible only when the disease progresses towards an advanced state. These symptoms are difficult breathing, lethargy and coughing at nights.
Another most common of beagle disease is the invertebral disk which is actually a type of disease in the spines. These disks serve the purpose of shock absorbers for the spines. When these disks begin to slip pressing the spinal cord it results in pain in the neck and in extreme cases may cause paralysis, numb feeling, loss of bladder control and bowel movements.
