A well groomed Golden Retriever looks amazingly beautiful with its rich cream and golden overcoat. This long, silky, smooth overcoat covers up to the tail and legs. Its features are enriched with warm brown eyes, locket shaped ears, and elongated straight tail.
The first step towards grooming is regular combing and brushing the dog with a bristle brush. Two times in a week would be sufficient. While combing ensure, that you brush its dense undercoat with the help of an undercoat rake. Brushing in such a manner will help in minimizing the shedding to a great extent.
The next step is the bathing. Golden Retriever’s must be bathed with a good quality dog shampoo. You can bathe this breed as many times as you wish. Bathing doesn’t cause any damage to the skin or overcoat. Sometimes owners might get confused as to which shampoo would be suitable, for knowing the perfect one you can consult a vet.
Do not forget the nails. Clip them regularly so that foot problems are avoided. For clipping you can use a dog nail clippers. Carefully trim the tips. Do not cut the quickly, other wise the nails will start bleeding.
Many people tend to miss out the dog’s feet and the tail. You must brush these areas and tail should also be trimmed. The ears should also be cleaned at regular intervals. Using an ear cleansing solution for cleaning ears two times in a month is a wonderful idea. Putting few drops of this solution into the dog’s ear canal helps in removing dirt and debris. Use a cotton swab to wipe them off gently around the area of the ear.
