How Do You Groom A Poodle ?

Grooming poodles regularly is quite necessary because of its thick and wavy coat. This coat constantly sheds hair which gets caught in the body and begins to form a hairball. Therefore, the hair has to be brushed thoroughly in order to keep the fur free from hairballs and tangles. One must also ensure that the thick and wavy coat is being trimmed time and again.

There are few things which you should be in possession all the time for grooming your poodle. These include pin brush, comb, trimming shears and scissors, set of good clippers, 10, 5 or7 F blade, Cool Lube for cleaning and cooling clipper blades.

Now for trimming the coat, you have to hold the poodle in a way so that the dog faces you. Then slightly hold the muzzle in order to keep the head in a steady position. While gripping you should be careful not to hold to tightly that will hurt the dog whereas if you hold too lightly the dog might just run away. Take a 10 blade, and gently cut the fur from the grain which goes all along the nose and towards the eyes. The upper portion should be clipped in this manner.

Now that a line has been made form the eye to the ear, visualize a V shape that begins from the Adam’s apple and end at finishes at front of each ear. You have to now start clipping all along this V-shape and this has to be done in the similar manner on the other side too.
