Shih Tzu puppies are available from rescue centers, animal shelter or a professional breeder. These pets which are abandoned by their owners are cared for and given shelter in homes. While the work is done voluntarily in the rescue centers, the work is done for a payment by workers and volunteers in the shelters.
The cost for a puppy in a shelter or rescue center is lesser as compared to that quoted by a breeder. Between the rescue center and the shelter, the former charges more for the puppy since the environment there is closer to a house and the puppy will have lesser trouble settling in a new owner’s house and will be better in behavior and health. One can ask the advice of a vet or any other experienced person before making the purchase especially if it is a first time buy.
It is rare to find a Shih Tzu in one such home, but it would be wise to keep such centers informed of one’s interest in such adoption. One should have the dog examined for diseases like skin troubles, health of ears, nose, teeth, nose; presence of conditions like diabetes or epilepsy and so on. It would be advisable to avoid adopting dogs with behavioral troubles or sickness unless the individual has experience in handing and training dogs.
With care, patience and affection one can take care of such puppies and have the satisfaction of saving the life of a Shih Tzu which would otherwise have to spend the rest of its life in a shelter or rescue center.
