A Yorkshire terrier would need regular grooming and maintenance. A good shampoo is as essential part of the kit required for the task of grooming.
The Yorkshire terrier has a coat in which the hair is straight, silky and long. The kennel club has laid down the requirement of the terrier in having a coat on the body which should be dark steel blue and have golden color in three shades on the legs and head. The hair is generally parted in the center of the head and along the back and the hair is trimmed to the ground level. The only respite that owners who do not intend their pets to participate in shows have is to keep the coat well trimmed as is convenient.
The shampoo used should be mild and with a balanced pH value. It should be rich in natural moisturizers such as aloe vera. The shampoos should be rich in vitamins E and A for ensuring supply of sufficient nutrients to the coat. Dogs with itchiness and flaky skin should be bathed with a shampoo and conditioner containing oatmeal. The shampoos used by humans are also considered strong for these canines.
Moisturizing sprays containing wheat proteins and aloe maintain the suppleness in the skin and keep the coat silky, soft and also shiny.
The frequency of shampooing should be limited to once a week lest the skin becomes too dry and flaky. Dogs participating in shows may be shampooed more often since they need grooming often. One should spend money and make effort in finding the right shampoo for the pert for best rewards.
