Goldfish are of many varieties. You can choose many of them, but there is nothing like fancy goldfish. Based on the kind of species the fancy goldfish could be somewhere three to six inches in length. They have two tailed fins. The fins can be either short or long. The most common varieties of goldfish are the sarsa, pearl scale, moor, shubunkin, oranda, bubble eye, butterfly, fantail, ryukin and lionhead.
The fancy goldfish require proper care. The first thing that you have to consider is the fish tank size. For the first fish, the size of the tank should be twenty gallon and then for the subsequent additional fish, extra ten gallons per fish would be needed. The most common belief is that the fancy goldfish can grow only up to six inches in length, but there are few varieties which have even grown up to a maximum of eleven to twelve inches in length. Hence, while you are investing in an aquarium, think of buying a bigger one to accommodate the goldfishes comfortably.
The next important thing to note for is the right kind of feed. Fancy goldfish possess rounded bellies that are quite prone to stomach infections and diseases. Ensure that you give them the food that does not harm them. Dried Gammarus is one such feed that not only provides enough fiber, but also helps in the digestion. Fresh or even frozen peas are good for prevention against constipation and other stomach ailments. It is always better to feed them with sinking pellets. This helps them in not consuming the external air present at the surface of the water.
