There are several species of sharks that depend on the sizes of these sharks. Whale is one such shark and it is basically the largest sharks available. As far as their feeding and eating habits are concerned, they eat eggs of bonito that are known to be released in extremely large quantities during the spawning months of July and August. It is known as a filter feeder which feeds on small animals found within the water.

Whale sharks are known to swim with their mouth wide open and this is the time when they such several prey along with the water. Once such animals are entered inside the mouth, these sharks are known to use their spongy gills rakers that are basically used for filtering the nourishment from water. Anything or everything that is unable to pass through the gills is eaten by the whale sharks.

Gill rakers are basically the bristly structures, most of which are around 4 or 10 inches long in the mouth of these Whale Sharks. These gill rakers are known to trap the smaller organisms which can be swallowed very easily by these whale Sharks. Whale sharks feed on various creatures and its prey includes krill, plankton, squid and small fish. Water is expelled through these sharks’ five pairs of gill slits. These sharks are capable of processing over 1500 gallons of water every hour. All these sharks, thus, feed on smaller animals and their feeding patterns are also entirely different from other shark species.
