Bees are a great tool for pollination. If you have a huge garden or a large piece of land with numerous trees, then cross-pollination becomes crucial for the plants to reproduce and grow. Bees along with insects and other flies help in carrying sperms off the pollen stalk from the male flower and place them on the stigma of the female flower. If the process is successful, the sperms will fuse with the egg and form an embryo. This can develop into a flower or a seed/fruit helping in further propagation. You can build your very own beehive for this purpose.
The bees generally reproduce during summer so attracting a colony at spring would be ideal. Choose a perfect spot for building one. Bees do not like too much sunlight or wind. Make sure the place is partially shaded. Build a wooden board with wooden frames having hexagonal carved cells. The wooden board will act like a resting place for bees. Wooden frames on the other hand will perfectly hold the beeswax foundation. You can also make a honey super for the bees to store honey. Place the entire structure in an elevated position. Select a spot, which is close to a small water body, but make sure the water is not too deep. The bees might end up drowning.
Next, you can buy bees of two different colonies or a single colony. If you are a bee expert, you can go in for wilder varieties. Bees are generally aggressive when provoked and can sting quite badly. You can use a smoker made up of pine straw, grass and burlap to calm the bees down in such situations.
