Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks, a well known American actor, was born in the year 1956 on July 9. He lives in New York City. He is famous for some of very notable roles.
Some of the popular roles he has performed are Andrew Beckett in the movie titled “Philadelphia”; his title role in the super hit movie “Forrest Gump”; as a Commander named James A. Lovell in the movie titled “Apollo 13”; as Captain John H. Miller in the famous “Saving Private Ryan”; his role as Michael Sullivan in the film titled “Road to Perdition”; as Sheriff Woody in “Toy Story”; and his portrayal of Chuck Noland in the movie “Cast Away”.
Between 1993 and 1994, Hanks won two Oscars back to back. His box-office collections totals to about 3.3 billion US dollars just in the domestic arena.

The following year, in 1988, Hanks married Rita Wilson, whom he had worked with in the movie titled “Volunteers”. They have two children Chester and Truman.
