Here are some of the facts on Queen Elizabeth I that are interesting.
Queen Elizabeth I was born 7 September 1533 at Greenwich Palace to Anne Boleyn and the notorious King Henry VIII. She reigned for forty-five years that prolonged from the year1558 to 1603.
Her mother, Anne Boleyn, was beheaded at the Tower of London as she was found guilty of adultery and incest. After the execution of her mother, the same year Elizabeth was declared an illegitimate child.
Princess Elizabeth lived with her stepmother Katharine Parr and stepmother's husband, Thomas Seymour. There were rumors that she was having an affair with Seymour and hence, was sent away in disgrace.
Robert Dudley was her favorite courtier and his wife was found dead at the foot of Queen Elizabeth’s stairs. And, the scandal followed Queen Elizabeth I as Dudley was suspected of being her lover and for arranging his wife’s murder so that he would be free to marry Queen Elizabeth.
In 1562, Queen Elizabeth came down with smallpox. She almost died because of it, but she escaped and was left with scars on her face. This lead the queen to cover her scars with heavy white make-up.
Several plans and plots were hatched to kill her, but most of them failed. Lastly, Queen Elizabeth I died on 24 March 1603 when she was nearly 70 years old. Blood poisoning was suspected to be the reason behind her death.
