Benefits Of Magnesium And Calcium

Calcium is a vital mineral for the growth and health of bones and teeth in our body. Magnesium is another mineral essential for the proper absorption of calcium. It is also required for maintaining a healthy system and for regulating routine body functions. These minerals work together in order to maintain good health and keep diseases and illnesses at bay.

Deficiency of calcium can increase the risk of hypertension. This in turn will lead to undue stress on the functioning of the heart. Due to hypertension, the walls of the artery get narrower. The heart will have to work harder in order to pump blood through these constricted blood passages increasing the chances of getting heart diseases and attacks. Increase in the calcium intake will reduce the risks of heart related disorders in those who might already be experiencing them.

Calcium assists in promoting good health of our bones and assists in rebuilding small quantities of bone loss. Deficiency of calcium can lead to bones becoming easily fractured and weaker. Calcium gets absorbed easily into the bones, fills them and repairs them in order to improve the immunity of the bones against toxins and harmful bacteria which are available throughout the body.

Calcium also maintains the enamel of our teeth. It restricts the loss or decay of the enamel by slowing the rate of deterioration and reversing the ill-effects of bacteria which destroy the teeth. Calcium assists in maintaining healthy jaws which are essential in keeping the teeth in place and keeping the bacteria affecting their health at bay. This will lessen the irritation and infections which can occur in the mouth.

Magnesium reduces the restriction of the walls of the lungs, as what is seen during asthma attacks. When the restriction eases, it allows easier breathing. This also reduces wheezing and shortness of breath; while facilitating normal breathing by proper intake of oxygen.

Magnesium relaxes constricted muscles thus alleviating pain and promoting reduction of tension and stress. Deficiency can lead to fatigue, spasms and cramps. These problems can be overcome by suitably increasing the intake of magnesium.

When there is any ailment in the bones or tissues, magnesium assists in making the calcium enter faster into the system resulting in faster response as well. Calcium is present in dairy products, eggs, nuts, green vegetables, whole grain and legumes. Magnesium is available in most vegetables, sesame seeds, almonds and other green leafy vegetables.

Excessive intake of protein in the form of meat should be avoided since it results in drainage of calcium from the body.
