The most exciting stage of women is the pregnancy stage as it generates a new life into the world. At the same time, the pregnancy period has to be dealt with utmost care otherwise it may lead to many complications. One of the complications that a part of women experience during pregnancy is premature labor. Though premature labor is very dangerous which is experienced by 12 percent of pregnant woman and cannot be eliminated as a whole, some of the preventive measures can help to some extent to prevent the baby being delivered before the stipulated time.

The problem with the premature labor is that it hits the pregnant woman faster and without any significant signs. Though the premature birth is very unfortunate and most serious complication during pregnancy, the detection of it at the earliest can redeem the pregnant woman from giving birth before the term period or it enables a very safe delivery for both the mother and the child.

There are some of the preventive measures needs to be taken by the pregnant women to prevent the risk of undergoing premature birth include monitoring for the vaginal infection and the fluid levels. The vaginal infections must be treated at the earliest to avoid the premature rupture of membranes (PROM) that may lead to premature birth. The fluid levels of the body also must be maintained at appropriate levels to avoid dehydration induced contraction that is caused mainly by the increase in the oxytocin concentration.

The common signs seen in most of the pregnant women who undergo premature birth include frequent cramps, discharge of blood from vagina, preeclampsia, painful urination, vomiting, acute pain in the stomach, backache, fluid discharge from vagina, contractions of the pelvis, etc. If any signs of premature birth are seen in the pregnant women, it is advised to consult the doctor immediately without any delay to prevent the premature birth.

There are many ways to manage with premature labor when a pregnant woman undergoes it. Some of them include hydrating the body either orally or by intravenous injection, lying sideward preferably left side, undertaking the treatment to stop the labor like Magnesium sulfate, brethine, terbutaline, etc.

The baby is checked for the amniotic fluid volume index, stress test, non-stress test, biophysical profile, ultrasound, etc. If premature birth becomes an essential one, then treatments are given to develop the lung of the baby quicker. It is always better to prevent the premature birth by following the guidelines of the practitioner.
