What To Eat When You Have Food Poisoning ?
Food poisoning results from intake of food that is contaminated by some common bacteria such as Salmonella,E. coli, Staphylococcus, shigella, cholera etc. Food poisoning not only can affect one single person but it may affect a group of people who would have consumed the same contaminated food that is why food poisoning is more common in picnics, cafeterias, fast food restaurants and get together at large scale.
There are certain types of food poisoning that lasts for week to ten days and then goes off but there are few which can be fatal such as botulism which generally occurs due to home canning food. Pregnant and breast feeding women, infants and elderly people are at more risk of food poisoning.
Food poisoning leads to vomiting and diarrhea which means loss of fluids from the body making it dehydrated hence, to make up the loss one must consume fluid in various forms. Drink beverages that are clear such as fruit juices less sweetened, tea without milk, ginger ale, few energy drinks. One must avoid alcoholic beverages and acidic drinks or citrus fruits and tomatoes. You must sip any beverage slowly. Do not gulp it down.
One can also opt for a BRAT diet which includes banana, rice, and apple sauce, brown bread toast without application of butter or jam. One may also take in bland foods like pasta and mashed potatoes. All dried foods like plain toast, saltine crackers, and cereals without milk are very good. One must say no to butter, margarine, greasy and fried foods.
