The onset of menstruation as a young girl and that of menopause during the 40s are both inevitable phases of a female’s life. These health conditions include osteoporosis, cancers, depression and weight gain. The recommended daily dosage of Vitamin D as per the Institute of Medicine is 200 IU for women below 50 years of age, 400 IU for women falling in the age bracket of 51 to 70 years, and 600 IU for those above the age of 70 years. Similarly, the dosage suggested for calcium on a daily basis includes 1000 milligrams of calcium till 51 years of age, and thereafter 1200 milligrams for the rest of one’s life. Studies also reveal that intake of Vitamin D does not aggravate hot flashes or night sweats in any way.
