In fact, many teenagers go to the extent of finding out what is the ideal height and weight for their age, and then try to ensure that they do things to attain that perfection. However, when it comes to height and weight for a teenager, they depend on certain factors.

It is not at all possible to say in general terms what is the average height and weight for a teenager. Every teenager is different and a lot depends on his genes and growth patterns. The variation in height and weight is so much across this age group that some teens might be extremely tall and skinny, others may be of average height and build, and still others may be short or tall with low body weight or too much weight.

This difference in weight and height among teenagers depends on the different rates of development and different body types. Nonetheless, it is the onset of puberty where teenagers see increase in height and weight. But, when it comes to average height and weight of a teenager, they are usually determined on the basis of body mass index, or BMI. This calculation allows a teenager to figure out what his weight should be in comparison to his height, vice versa. Basically the BMI chart shows average height and weight based on set standards, so a few pounds or few inches here or there is not a major cause of worry.

According to the BMI chart, the following should be average height and weight of a teenager:

  • Boys of 12 to 13 years should be 85 to 100 lbs in weight and 58 to 62 inches in height.
  • Girls of 12 to 13 years should be 95 to 105 lbs in weight and 60 to 63 inches in height.
  • Boys of 14 to 15 years should be 105 to 125 lbs in weight and 63 to 66 inches in height
  • Girls of 14 to 15 years should be 105 to 115 lbs in weight and 63 to 64 inches in height.
  • Boys of 16 to 17 years should be 130 to 150 lbs in weight and 67 to 70 inches in height.
  • Girls of 16 to 17 years should be 115 to 120 lbs in weight and around 64 inches in height.
  • Boys of 18 to 20 years should be 150 to 160 lbs in weight and 68 to 70 inches in height.
  • Girls of 18 to 20 years should be 125 to 130 lbs in weight and 64 inches in height.
