Hydroponic Organic Gardening
Hydroponics is a unique process of growing fruits, vegetables and plants without the use of soil. In this system of growing, the plants are suspended in water which is enriched with nutrients. There are many gardeners who are of the opinion that hydroponic gardening is better for the plant and its yield as it does not allow the plants to get diseases or pests very easily.
Many people are of the opinion that hydroponic gardening cannot be done organically. However, this is a misconception. Hydroponic organic gardening is possible as the nutrients that are used to enrich the growing medium can be organic in nature. Any plant that is grown hydroponically requires water and oxygen as well as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and sulfur for optimum growth. So, these nutrients have to be added into the water to ensure that the plant gets them. In addition, the plant will also require small amounts of iron, manganese, copper, boron and zinc. As long as all the fertilizers and nutrients that you are adding into the water are organic in nature, you will have hydroponic organic plants. So, think about adding the droppings of animals into the water to provide some of the nutrients that the plants require. You can also add other organic fertilizers and nutrients that are specifically available in nurseries for hydroponic organic gardening. This way you can be assured that your plants are getting toxin-free ingredients.
The most common medium used for hydroponic organic gardening is rockwool or heydite. These are many from rocks. You can use this medium as an anchorage and select one that is best suited for the plants you intend growing. Then use things like cow manure, pig manure, sheep manure, seaweed, blood, or fish emulsion as fertilizer. Make sure that you take into consideration any health concerns before using any of the fertilizers listed here.
As long as you provide the necessary nutrients to your plants and keep the hydroponic system well oxygenated, you should not have any issues. As you can see that hydroponic organic gardening is not that difficult. However, it can be time consuming.
