Most people think that Varicella Zoster is the scientific name of chicken pox. However, Varicella is the name of the virus that causes the condition called chicken pox. It also causes a similar condition called shingles. Varicella zoster comes from the same family of viruses like herpes. They all exhibit similar patterns of infection.
The scientific name of chicken pox is chicken pox only. There has never been a scientific name for the disease as such. Chicken pox has been around for more than a century. It was more prevalent in the west and as the English started traveling, the disease spread into almost all countries in the world.
Chicken pox is a viral disease that is caused early in childhood. It is extremely common especially in summers and when the weather is very hot. Chicken pox virus usually attacks people with low immunity levels. Children are more susceptible to it. If a person has been infected by the virus once, they will not get it again. Their body develops immunity to the disease. A person who has never been infected with the virus has a higher chance of getting chicken pox in their adulthood.
Chicken pox is a highly contagious disease and it spreads when the infected person comes in contact with the other person. The disease starts with a mild fever and then the infected person starts developing rashes that turn into blisters. These blisters stay for two days and then start bursting and drying. It takes about three weeks to get cured from chicken pox.
