Diflucan For Thrush In Adults

Thrush is a yeast infection of the mouth. It affects the mucus membrane lining of the mouth and tongue. The guilty party is a fungus called Candida albicans. It can also cause infections in the vagina, throat, urinary tract and lining of the abdomen.

A common medication of thrush is Diflucan, which comes in tablets form. One per day should prove sufficient. One might need to take it for 10 days or two weeks. Regular dosage will be around 200mg the first day, and 100mg from the next day onwards. You would get to see the difference almost immediately. However, to completely remove the infection and prevent chances for it recurring, continue taking the medication for 2 weeks.

The same level of dosage is recommended for the occurrence of thrush in the esophagus. If the infection proves to be severe, the dosage is increased to 400mg, and Diflucan has to be taken for around 3 weeks. This should prevent a relapse.

However, the dosage and period of medication will depend upon the age of the person, their immune system and the cause of the infection. Nursing mothers will have to stop nursing their babies until the doctor deems it safe.

Diflucan will help treat all fungal or yeast infections. It can also be used to cure peritonitis and pneumonia.

Diflucan can cause side effects like rashes, swelling, low blood pressure, diarrhea, abdominal pain and difficulty in breathing and swallowing.  The occurrence of these side effects is rare. However, if you get any of the symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.
