Green Tea Increases Life Expectancy

Green Tea Increases Life Expectancy

The National Cohort Study started in 1994, in Japan, and involved more than 40,000 participants, who were aged between 40 and 79 years. All participants did not show any sign of heart disease, cancer or stroke. The study was on for 11 years and during this time the researchers analyzed why some participants died and what connection did green tea have. This data was further analyzed by researchers from Japan, and perhaps you will finally figure out why Japanese people tend to have higher life expectancy compared to people of other nations.

Researchers found that people who consumed more green tea were less likely to die due to health problems, including heart disease. The effect of green tea was more prominent among women compared to men. However, the findings clearly showed that regardless of the gender, the more green a person consumed, the less likely they were to succumb to heart disease. Researchers further found that the group of participants that consumed a minimum of 5 cups or more of green tea every day was least likely to die during the study. Furthermore, researchers also found the cancer deaths were no connected to green tea consumption.

What Does This Mean?
Based on the findings of the researchers, it can be said that green tea is good for a person’s heart. Drinking a minimum of one cup of green tea every day will reduce the possibility of dying due to cardiovascular disease. However, researchers still do not know how long it takes for green tea to begin showing its positive effects. Nonetheless, the more green tea a person consumes, the more protection they will have against heart disease.

Green Tea and Antioxidants
Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that help to destroy free radicals in the body. Green tea contains polyphenols, carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid and hordes of minerals, such as selenium, zinc, chromium and manganese. The antioxidants present in green tea are highly potent compared to antioxidants in other foods and beverages. Hence, this helps the body to get rid of free radicals, which are known to induce premature aging and other health problems, such as cancer. So people who drink green tea every day are less susceptible to age-related issues and other health problems.

Conclusion
However, as mentioned before, it is not known how long a person has to drink green tea before its beneficial effects become visible. Nonetheless, you will do your body a lot of good by drinking green tea every day.
