Understanding mental health can be a complicated process because the human brain handles several functionalities in the body.
It handles the body functions on an emotional and physical level. There are several parameters one can use to check for emotional and physical problems.Mental problems are often dealt with psychiatric health care, which is a branch of medicine. Based on this system of health care, doctors have arrived at a standard pattern of symptoms that lead to mental health problems.
Most psychiatrists interview their patients to assess their condition, and arrive at conclusions. They also correlate their findings to the symptoms they find in the patient. Even blood test and blood pressure check are taken into account while evaluating the patient. For kids, growth charts are used for example. These growth charts use mental health parameters like cognitive skills to check out the growth pattern. Similarly for adults other parameters are used to evaluate. Most of the evaluation depends on the problem of the person. For example, autism has a separate checklist. However, autism is not determined in adulthood and the symptoms of the condition manifest during childhood only.
A mental health assessment checklist helps the doctor to evaluate the mental state, make a diagnosis and arrive at a treatment plan. One of the adult disorders that are evaluated using mental health assessment checklists is bipolar disorder. Similarly, schizophrenia, anxiety, and multiple personality disorders are all evaluated using these checklists. The checklist will contain several factors like behavioral patterns, and physical health like blood pressure and weight.
