Steps To Become A Naturalization Citizen

When a person first decides to apply for citizenship as a part of naturalization, he should first take the eligibility test and know if he is eligible and fulfill all the conditions to apply for the citizenship. This is the first step in the process is to apply for naturalization.

People who can apply for it are permanent residents who have lived in the United States for more than five years after obtaining the residency. They have to file their request of naturalization with the USCIS. Then they request you to take the eligibility test in which several questions are asked. The questions will be typically about the number of years you have spent in the United States, personal details, other details of your family and spouse, income details and so on. The most important details that play a large role in the eligibility criteria are the visa type and the number of years you have lived in the country.

Also, to be eligible to be naturalized in the United States, you should be at least 18 years old, and have resided in the United States for five years consecutively before the date of application. The person should have spent 30 months in the United States by being physically present. During this stay, he should have been a permanent and legal resident of the United States.

The citizenship or naturalization process is the last step in acquiring it. In the mean time, all the documents provided by the applicant are reviewed by the authorities and also the overall life is reviewed in the United States. However, a point to be noted is that by meeting all the requirements it does not guarantee the citizenship.
