The respiratory system is one of the most important systems of the human body and performs essential functions to ensure good health in a person. One breathes with the help of the respiratory system, and its importance cannot be undermined. Our life depends on its proper functions.
There are many ways respiration can affect a person’s life. In the worst case scenario, there can be a possible death if the lungs and the whole respiratory system do not work in a proper way. It is important to keep the respiratory system healthy and sound.
The respiratory system consists of a nose, trachea, wind pipe, pleura, pulmonary arteries, right lung, left lung, lobes, diaphragm, bronchus and a respiratory zone. This zone is a place where the air which is breathed in collects carbon, and becomes carbon dioxide to be expelled out.
The respiratory system works in a simple manner. There are currents in our body that are regulated by nerves that decide that the body requires oxygen. So, a signal is given out to the lungs to breathe in fresh air. This pushes a current up our spine and we inhale air. This brings in air from the surroundings into our lungs. The inhaled air is processed in our lungs. While in the lungs, this air collects the carbon that is not needed and exhales it out as carbon dioxide, after reacting with the oxygen that was inhaled. The whole cycle repeats itself throughout the lifetime.
The cycle is in synchronized harmony with the heart, to provide oxygen to the entire body and staying alive. Thus, it is very important to follow healthy habits and lifestyle to keep our respiratory system functioning properly and healthy so that we can enjoy a wonderful and fulfilling life.
