Types Of Dental Bridge

Dental bridges are the most common kind of cosmetic enhancements that people undertake to replace their missing tooth. A dental bridge can be cheap to moderately expensive, depending to on type of dental bridge fixed.

Some insurance companies cover the costs partially, while others do not. Also, the time taken for a dental bridge procedure is very short unless one needs a bone graft. In most cases, a doctor will tell you what kind of dental bridge you should go for. There are three types of dental bridges that are popular.

The traditional dental bridge is the most common kind of bridge that you will find. It consists of three pieces, namely one porcelain tooth; two crowns. One crown is on either side of the gap where the bridge is to be fixed. These crowns help to hold the porcelain tooth in its place. The porcelain is fused to metal for support. In case there are no teeth adjacent to support the porcelain tooth, then dental implants are used. This could drive up the costs. Otherwise the traditional procedure is cheap and functional.

The cantilever bridge is less known by name, and more by procedure. It is a different type of bridge altogether, and is used in cases where there are teeth only to one side. The other side is just a gap. The bridge is fixed to the natural teeth and two crowns are used to fix the bridge on the adjacent side.

The Maryland bonded bridge is a simple plastic tooth and comes with the gums. It is very easy to install, and is supported by a metal framework. This is low cost compared to other types of dental bridges.
