A mini stroke means that a person has had a transient ischemic attack, also known as TIA. In the case of a mini stroke, a short-term interruption in the blood flow is caused to some parts of the brain. This causes temporary stroke symptoms that often last for a few minutes. For example, weakness or tingling in one arm or leg can be classified as a symptom for a mini stroke.

A mini stroke does not, however, cause any kind of brain damage. However, a person should consider a mini stroke as a warning sign for a full-fledged stroke.

If you have suffered from a mini stroke, then you should seek immediate medical attention in order to prevent a full stroke. Out of approximately 50,000 Americans who suffer from a mini stroke every year, nearly one-third of them will have an acute stroke at least once in their lifetime.

Suffering a mini stroke even once is a serious issue. Some people tend to have several mini strokes, as many as 5 to 6 of them before they actually suffer from a true stroke.

A mini stroke can cause the same effects as the ones associated with an ischemic stroke. However, the only real difference is that it involves an element of timing. In order to define a mini stroke, it can be said that a stroke that produces the symptoms that can last for a period of 24 hours. A mini stroke can also cause symptoms that can improve for a short period of time, usually within 30 minutes of occurring.
