|How Often Does Eye Cancer Occur ?
An eye cancer can occur anywhere in the eye where a tumor can grow. The most common type of cancers is found growing behind the eye. Actually there are several types of ocular or eye cancers.
It also has been found that the occurrence of eye cancer varies according to the age of the patient. Retinoblastoma is the most common type of cancer that occurs in children and intraocular melanoma is the most common type of cancer that occurs in adults.
Retinoblastoma, intraocular, extra ocular, recurrent ocular cancer can actually occur at any time and among these the intra ocular cancer is very rare. Intraocular cancer is the only type of cancer that develops in an isolated part of the eye and the tumor will be located behind the eye. This type of cancer can be rectified through an eye surgery.
In the other types of cancer in most cases the cancer would have spread to other parts of the eye lie the tissues surrounding the eye and they are more difficult in nature to treat. Also, after giving radiation therapy for the cancer the cancer can recur in a period of 3 months to one year. The cells that have spread to the tissues can actually keep forming tumors in the same place over and over again. The chances of losing the eye are high when cancer develops in the eye. For children, the treatment for cancer has been more effective and the chances of recurrence are also low.
