Experimental Treatments For Advanced Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is seen among men and is a very common kind of cancer as far as men are concerned. Though there exist various treatment measures that people go for in order to cure prostate cancer but it is unfortunate on their parts that the treatment gets really difficult or next to impossible once the cancer passes to an advanced stage. At such a stage, even these measures become useless to these people.

There are several people working towards discovering some experimental treatments for the advanced prostate cancer. ADT, commonly known as the androgen deprivation therapy, is one such treatment option that is best suited for people with advanced prostate cancer. This therapy works on the theory that the male hormones known as androgens act as a fuel for the development of this disease. Thus it works towards the reduction of the levels of this hormone and hence helps reduce prostate cancer.

It may be done through medicines which then interfere with these hormones or can also be made successful through surgery wherein the testicles are removed. Though this treatment seems quite effective towards the removal of this cancer but it is also important to know the other side of the measure to be on the safer side. This therapy may leave certain side effects that are felt afterwards. These are associated with the reduced levels of hormones produced in a male body. These include reduced sex drives along with the difficulty in erection, increased body fat and muscle loss, increased risk against the development of diabetes & heart disease, weakened bones as well as breast enlargements.

Some other such treatments include the chemotherapy and the hormone therapy but they do have their own pros and cons. Thus it is very important to discuss it with the physician before selecting any of these treatment options.
