|What Causes Red Spots In Eyes ?
Sometimes when you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror you will notice a small red spot in your eye. You may get nervous, but there is no pain or inflammation in your eyes so you do not bother with it. All you may do is wonder what on earth caused a red spot in your eyes.
There are small blood vessels that lie underneath the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is a coating that covers the white part of the eye. When one of the blood vessels bursts open, the blood seeps underneath the conjunctiva. Medically, this phenomenon this called subconjuntival hemorrhage. Sometimes a large blood vessel bursts open, bleeds and this is how a red spot is formed.
What Causes Red Spots in Eyes?
As discussed above, a subconjuntival hemorrhage is due to blood vessels bursting open and blood seeping underneath the conjunctiva. Subconjuntival hemorrhages can occur due to too much pressure on the head or the upper part of the body. The pressure is usually created if a person lifts something very heavy. The strain is also caused during constipation.
Other Causes for Red Spots in Eyes:
Other conditions that cause red spots or retinal hemorrhages include diabetes, anemia, heart disorders and cholesterol problems. Even trauma and stress are some factors that cause red spots in the eyes. If you are in the habit of taking high dosages of blood thinners such as aspirin, better lower the dosage as this may also be another cause of red spots in eyes.
If you have noticed a red spot in your eyes, consult your eye doctor about a diagnosis and medication, if required. The doctor may conduct a comprehensive eye examination before prescribing a treatment.
