What Does Ringworm Look Like ? On Animals ?

Ringworm infection is a common type of infection that affects humans and animals. If you have pets in your house, then they are also susceptible to the infection, and actually you may spread it to each other. Ringworm is a type of fungal infection. It can be caused due to poor hygiene, and also by coming in contact with an infected person or a pet. The fungus that causes that infection lives on the skin in the infected area. As they multiply, the infection progresses.

In animals, the most common type of fungus to cause this infection is the Microsporum Canis. When a pet like a dog or cat has this infection, it is actually quite difficult to identify the same on them. Pets are covered with fur, and sometimes the patches get hidden under the long coat. You need to wear gloves and carefully check the skin of your pet.

Typically, when there is a ringworm infection present, the pet loses hair on top of the infected part. It is much easier to identify on short coated pets. Some other notable symptoms on pets are they are constantly scratching or biting themselves. Your pet may get the infection when they have come in contact with a person, who has the infection, or a pet.

These spores of the fungus have the ability to stay alive in any environment for a long duration. They can live under the carpets, grooming equipment or even on beds. The infection develops typically after 10 to 12 days of coming in contact with it.
