Can Salt Kill Parasite ?

Before we can figure out whether salt can kill a parasite, let us understand what is a parasite. Any organism that lives off another organism is known as a parasite.

There are many different types of parasites and majority of them in our stomachs and intestines. These parasites are nourished by the food we eat, thereby reducing the amount of nutrients available for our bodies.

Parasites are harmful for a human being as they weaken the immune system and make us more vulnerable to a host of other health-related complications. Common symptoms of parasite infestation are abdominal pain, headache, flatulence, feeling bloated and irregularities in the bowel.

People usually contract parasites from contaminated food and drinks, or poor hygiene. It is estimated that nearly 50 percent of the population in the United States has at least one type of parasite infestation.

While there are many drugs available to kill parasites, they invariably have side effects like nausea, abdominal pain, giddiness or vomiting. That is why people are constantly looking for alternative methods to get rid of parasites from their bodies.

So, can salt kill a parasite? Thousands of years ago, our ancestors believed that salt had anti-bacterial properties. This belief still stands true. Salt can kill a parasite but not all types of salt. For instance, the common table salt will have no effect on a parasite. However, sea salt or pure salt is highly effective in killing many types of parasites.

Even today many people use pure salt water as colon cleanse to get of parasites and many of them vouch for this method of treatment. Then there are others who drink salt water to get rid of parasites. Make sure that your salt consumption does not exceed more than 20 grams a day; in addition, drink plenty of water to keep your body well hydrated. Eight 8 ounces glasses of water is not enough. It should be more than that if you want to drink salt to kill a parasite.
