Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder that causes the person to become weak and also sometimes it is fatal. Of late, doctors have found a link between bulimia and diabetes and there is some type of correlation among them. Bulimia may cause both Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

The side effects of bulimia directly increase the risks and possibilities of getting diabetes for a person. Managing a condition like bulimia and diabetes together can be an extremely difficult task for people. Also, on the other hand, diabetes can also cause bulimia. Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, can cause bulimia in the person at an early stage. There are several dietary restrictions placed on a person with bulimia and because of it they are prone to binging and developing an eating disorder.

An increasing similarity is found in the food habits of people with diabetes and people with bulimia. They are both prone to binge eating, which is the biggest symptom of bulimia nervosa. When people with diabetes indulge in binge eating, there is a danger of the levels of blood sugar rising. So, in order to get rid of the effects, they may start purging or vomiting the food.

People with bulimia are at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus. Since people with this disorder tend to indulge in binge eating, they are prone to obesity. It directly increases the chances of diabetes. That is why they start vomiting the food they have eaten.

The complications caused by diabetes and bulimia being present at the same time in a person are almost like a death trap. One condition restricts the other, and it becomes extremely difficult to manage both.
