Bulimia is an eating disorder where the person initially binges on food and then rushes to the bathroom to vomit it all out before the food is digested. A person suffering from bulimia will look for any means to regurgitate his food out. In most cases the causes are self made.

People suffering from bulimia are their own reasons and because of the decisions they make. Most people get this disorder in the process of losing weight which is an obsession in the United States. The idea of losing weight and attaining a perfect figure has been glorified to such an extent through the media and print that people start believing that being thin is the only salvation in their life. Starvation is an easy and quicker way out for many people and this can easily lead them to bulimia.

The only way to prevent bulimia is to have healthy lifestyle and eat normally. People could make wise choices like exercising and eating healthy food to lose weight. This is a much better option than starving.

A lot of exposure has to be given to women and young girls who want to be thin at the college and school level and also awareness to such conditions should increase so that young people understand the dangers of such conditions. If children are encouraged to lead healthy lifestyle which includes a lot of sports activities and exercises, then they will have the natural inclination towards losing weight in healthy way. Children should be encouraged to lead healthy lifestyles from a very young age.

These days bulimia is being diagnosed in teenage boys and men also but to a much lesser extent as compared to women. That is why the awareness of such disorders should be given to both men and women.
