When people mention yoga they are actually referring to hatha yoga. Yoga is an ancient form of exercise found in India in the 15th century. The most common kinds of yoga postures practiced today, including the kundalini and the ashtanga yoga, are a branch of Hatha yoga.
Hatha yoga covers exercises for beginners to a highly advanced level. As derived from a combination of Sanskrit words, the meaning of the word Hatha is split into two parts. Ha in Sanskrit means the sun, and tha means the moon. It is interpreted in such a way that Hatha yoga uses the opposite forces in the body to show effects.
There are two basic and fundamental concepts on which the Hatha yoga works. One is the body postures and the other is the breathing patterns. Both are used in tandem and the desired results are obtained. While learning Hatha yoga, a person learns to manipulate their body’s energies in such a way that they cure their ailments and also maintain good health.
In ancient India, sages used to do yoga to attain mind and body coordination, and also spiritual advancement. According to Hatha yoga, there are 8 limbs in the body and it concentrates on exercising these limbs. It also aims at achieving a balance between the body and mind.
