Foot quickness agility drills are used, as the name suggests, to develop speed and quickness in any type of sports. The idea is to improve co-ordination so that the person can react faster than normal.
Most coaches and foot quickness agility drill experts say that these drills should be performed at the start of the training session right after the warm up. Most of these drills are designed in such a way that they are not exhausting. However, the drills do require high quality of work which you will not be able to give if you do them after a tiring training session.
Here are some foot quickness agility drills that are commonly used by basketball players and other sportsmen and sportswomen who need to be fast on their feet.
- Speed Rope Jumping is different from normal rope jumping. Here the idea is to jump as fast as possible for one minute, taking rest for 30 seconds and then starting it all over again. In order to gain benefit, you need to do around 3 sets but you also need to keep a track of how many jumps you do in each set.
- Heel Clicks is another foot quickness agility drill which involves drawing two parallel lines on the floor. Make sure that the lines are around two feet apart. Place your right foot outside the right line and your left foot outside the left line. Now jump up in the air and click your heels together, and make sure that you land outside the lines. Here you have to pay attention to quickness rather than the height of your jump.
- Square Rope Jumping uses a skipping rope and as you jump, you have to try to jump in the shape of a square. You will benefit from doing one sets of one minute each, with a 30 second rest in between the sets.
