Youth agility and speed training has become an important part of all sports because it is at this stage that many youngsters realize that it is their dream to pursue a professional career in sports. There are many agility and speed training drills that are ideally suited for youngsters and the idea behind these drills is to make them simple and enjoyable. Here is one example of youth agility and speed training drill which will help with overall speed. Take cones and place them at 10 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards and 40 yards from the starting point. The cones should be placed in a circle, at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock from the starting point. Now you can lateral or cross-legged running from the starting point to a cone, say at 30 yards, or you can do agility ladder from the starting point to the 10 yard cone. The idea here is to sprint to the cone from the starting point and then do an agility exercise when you return from the cone to the starting point.
It is best to do this drill with a training partner who will be responsible for making a spur of the moment decision on which cone to run to and the agility exercise on the way back.
