Several people believe that taking multivitamins is the best way to avoid chronic diseases and maintaining our body healthy. This notion may always not be true and also sometimes excess of some vitamins and minerals can turn harmful for the body. Several women use vitamins on an everyday basis in a self prescribed fashion and find themselves with unwanted problems. A research shows that older women who take multivitamins were diagnosed with cancer more in number than women who do not take multivitamins.
The results were shocking because multivitamins are supposed to do good rather than harm. But, this was not the case in the research findings.
An extensive research done in Sweden involved following women who were aged from 50 to 80 years. At the time of study, none of these participants had cancer. The research was carried out over a period of ten years and these women were taking multivitamins. After a period of ten years, it was found that nearly 1,000 women developed breast cancer.
So, the conclusion was that women who took multivitamins were at a higher risk for developing breast cancer than women who did not take them. One thing for sure that was established through the study was that multivitamins should be taken by women only when they need them. Taking them on an everyday basis even when the body does not need it develops problems of all sorts. Multivitamins are a combination of vitamins and minerals, and a combination of some of these is directly connected to breast cancer.
