Vitamin E And Oxidation

Vitamin E And Oxidation

We have heard several good things about Vitamin E and its benefits for our skin. Vitamin E is a fat soluble compound and it is naturally available in several fruits and vegetables. Both men and women need Vitamin E to maintain their skin and other things in the body. It should be an essential part of our diet. It is found in plenty in fish and poultry products.

Vitamin E is considered as an inhibitor of the oxidation process. Oxidation is a process that causes the browning of food items like apples and potatoes, for example. The oxygen molecules in the food react with other chemicals or gases and that is why they start becoming brown in color. Oxidation can also take place in our body but it is not visible to us. It is bad for health and can lead to various types of cancers. Vitamin E plays a role of preventing the oxidation process inside the body. It protects the unsaturated fats available in our body and prevents them from being oxidized.

Vitamin E also protects the fat molecules in our blood and cell membranes. If oxidation takes place consistently in our body, then the body tissues will break down. Also free radicals will start forming more rapidly. The vitamin prevents the free radicals from forming in our body. However, how much vitamin e a person should have everyday has not been determined. Also, it should be a natural part of our diet. Taking Vitamin E tablets is not a solution.
