He came up with a unique golden sponge cake with cream filling. Initially Twinkies had banana cream filling, which was changed to vanilla cream filling during World War II due to shortage of bananas. However, in 2007, the company manufacturing Twinkies announced that it would re-introduce banana cream filling due to more demand.
