Dealing with chronic illness is not an easy, mainly because of uncertainty involved in the disease. Some types of chronic illness may be a bit mild while the others may be severe and life threatening. For those affected with chronic illness, every day is a new difficult day, especially if their disease involves some kinds of recurring pain.
Moreover, patients of chronic illness are under constant medication, which may lead to many side effects too and changes in lifestyle. Though some lifestyle changes may be very minor and not involve others, while some lifestyle changes may lead to a loss of freedom, of some kind of hobby and in some cases even loss of employment.
Chronic illness is very unpredictable and things are very uncertain because the kind of experience one patient may have doesn’t necessarily have to be the same in case of the other patient. There is no one good thing that may work to fight the illness, but at the same time, anything that can help you overcome the existing situation is a good thing.
Chronic illness may also have psychological impacts where the patient may feel depressed, angry, frustrated and lonely. However, these are the very qualities which cause the person to become weak. One needs to be strong enough emotionally and with the support of friends and family be ready to fight the disease. For this, one should collect as much information as possible about one’s illness in order to be able to deal with it. But no matter how much information one has, one should also be prepared to deal with a certain amount of uncertainty too.
