What To Expect After Rhinoplasty

What To Expect After Rhinoplasty ?

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a common cosmetic procedure that is done to change the shape or contour of, or defect in the nose. If you intend having such a surgery, you should know what to expect after a rhinoplasty. This will help you aid the healing process and get the desired results.

Your appearance after a rhinoplasty will change as the face, especially the nose will have a swelling and it will also look bruised. In addition, the nose may be packed with dressing to stem the flow of blood. The nose will be in a cast that will act as a support. In order to combat the swelling, your surgeon may tell you put ice compress on the nose. You will be instructed on how to apply the compress without causing any damage to the nose.

You will be unable to breathe from your nose and all breathing will have to take place through the mouth. You may also feel a little nauseous. This is because of the anesthesia. At times, nausea could also occur due to swallowing of blood during the procedure.

In about 5 to 7 days, the cast from the nose will be removed and you may get a little disappointed. At this time, the nose will still be swollen and bruised. Make sure that you do not accidentally hit your nose or jostle it as it will be painful. The bruises will take around 10 days to fade. In case there is still some faint bruising, you can use makeup to conceal it. The swelling will take time to subside. And, only after 2 to 4 months will it subside completely. In some people, the swelling can take a year to subside. Once the swelling subsides, you will have a clear indication of what your nose looks like after the surgery. In case you are unhappy, then you will need a revision surgery. Normally, revision surgeries only take place after 9 to 12 months of the first surgery.
