Grandparents In The Bible
Ancestors and parents are given a tribute in the biblical system. Bible also says that the role of the grandparents and blessings are important for grandchildren. Psalm 78:5-7 says that 'the children which should be born should arise and declare (the testimony and the law) to their children'.
Psalm 128 says: "Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel". It is good that one has children, but having grandchildren will make a person more content because of one main reason -- their family tree is in continuation. Proverbs say that "Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers". This is Proverb 17.
In the Bible, parents are honored by their children, and also parents cared and showed affection towards not only their children, but also their grandchildren. We are all missing this care, honor and affection in the present. Children are not honored by parents and parents are not honored by children.
In the biblical system, parents were the guardians of the wealth which is not only materialistic. Land, money, material possessions, information, history, customs, laws, heritage, religion and wisdom were all the wealth possessions which were passed down to the children and then to the grandchildren.
Let us now see what the Bible says in reference of grandparents.
Proverbs 13:22 says “Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly”.
Isaiah 46:4 says “And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you”.
Hebrews 13:5-6 says “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me”.
Therefore, it can be said that there is definitely a lot of mention of grandparents in the Bible. Maybe the mention is not direct, but it is there nonetheless.
