Gerontology is the study of mental, physical and social changes that occur in a person when he or she becomes old. Geriatrics is not same as gerontology even thought lot of people think they are. geriatrics is a branch that studies the diseases and health conditions of elderly people whereas the gerontology covers the aspects of geriatrics and also studies the ageing process and the changes it borings to a person.

There are hundreds of aspects to consider when it comes to the ageing process. As a person ages there are behavioral changes, there are changes in the mental conditions which makes them prone to more illnesses, there are changes in the physical conditions as well. If you notice, most of the elderly people behave in a similar fashion and they tend to lose their own personality traits.
