There are several kinds of eye diseases, and several kinds of symptoms that are related to them. Some of them may just irritate the eyes and cause some discomfort, while others may cause more serious problems like loss of vision.

The most common kind of eye problems experienced by people are cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes retinopathy, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and retinal disorders.All of these disorders are curable. However, early detection is very essential in their cure. Also, all these eye problems share some common symptoms and some are more specific and are revealed through appropriate tests.

Some of the most common eye disease symptoms are as follows:  

  • Itchy eyes
  • Pus in the eyes
  • White muck in the mornings
  • Red eyes
  • Dry eyes
  • Burning sensation in the eyes
  • Excessive watering of the eyes
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Blotchy eyes
  • White discoloration in the eye
  • Murkiness of the lens
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision

In diseases like cataract, the lens of the eye becomes murky, and it is clearly visible to the doctor. By looking into the lens, the doctor can tell that it is a cataract. However, conditions like astigmatism are more difficult to diagnose, and they usually cause symptoms like blurred vision or headaches.

If a person faces these symptoms persistently, then they should visit the doctor immediately because it is clearly a vision problem. Not all symptoms interfere with the vision. For example, in conditions like the dry eyes the symptoms are pain and inconvenience, but the condition does not interfere with the ability to see clearly.
