Non Surgical Cataract Treatment

Non Surgical Cataract Treatment

Cataract is a condition that causes cloudiness to the lens of the eye. It is a slow progressing disorder, and it can eventually cause blindness.

However, cataract is known to affect people who are in the older age group. It is a very common condition among that age group.Cataract can be treated by replacing the lens through surgery. Surgery is the most common method of treating cataract. However, other methods include non surgical treatment, and alternative therapy. In either case, the cataract should be detected early enough so that there is scope for treatment. It is also important to understand how cataract affects the lens to understand the non surgical procedure.

The only non surgical treatment available is laser treatment. The lens is corrected by passing laser rays into it. The laser beam is focused exactly on the spot of cataract or the epicenter of it. However, this is only possible if the radius of the cataract is small. If it is large, then it cannot be treated.

Cataract surgery is not complicated in nature. The actual surgery involves replacing the natural lens with another kind of lens called intraocular lens. These lenses take over the function of the natural lens. It is also made to suit the eye of the individual. In a non surgical treatment, the existing natural lenses are just being cleaned so that the person can see. If the whole diameter of the lens is affected by the condition, then a simple non surgical laser treatment will not be of any help.
