Many scientific studies have concluded that if a person has around 1 or 2 drinks in a day, he or she could protect themselves from getting cardiac diseases like heart attacks. However, as alcohol can cause many health problems and most people do not stop at 2 drinks, the American Heart Association is a strong believer that people who not drink should not start drinking alcohol just to help the health of their heart.
Now coming to alcoholism and heart attack. In a recent study in the US, the researchers studied 1,835 people who were hospitalized due to heart attacks. They studied these participants alcohol consumption in the year before the heart attack. If the person drank 3 drinks in a period of 2 hours, they labeled it as binge drinking.
Based on their studies, the researchers found that the mortality rate was higher in participants who indulged in binge drinking compared to those who did not indulge in binge drinking. The researchers further found that even indulging in binge drinking occasionally could increase the chances of death. The kind of alcohol that a person consumed had no bearing on the mortality. In addition, researchers found that people who indulged in binge drinking where invariably heavy drinkers on the whole.
If a person drinks over 3 alcoholic drinks in a day, it is toxic for the heart. Heavy consumption of alcohol tends to harm the heart, result in elevated blood pressure, cause enlarged heart that is weak, and be the reason for congestive heart failure and strokes. When a person drinks too much alcohol, it causes more fat to circulate in the blood and this ends up raising the levels of the triglyceride.
Hence, it appears as though alcoholism and heart attack tend go together hand-in-hand. So, this could be a good time for you to give up drinking completely.
