A heart attack can occur at any age. However, it is a certain age group that is at a higher risk. The older generation is more prone to getting a heart attack compared to the younger generation. Also, when it comes to heart attacks, diet, weight and fitness play a crucial role immaterial what the age of the person is.
If you check heart attack and age statistics, you will be surprised to learn the details. It has been seen that women are more prone to succumbing to a heart attack in a few weeks of the attack compared to men. Within a year of suffering from a heart attack, it was found that eighteen percent men and twenty-three percent women aged forty years and above end up dying. If you take a period of 5 years after the attack, then forty-three percent women and thirty-three percent men end up dying within 5 years of the attack.
Based on numerous studies, it has been found that though women are less likely to suffer from a heart attack, they are at a greater risk of succumbing to the attack compared to men. This is primarily because women end up with much higher blood pressure and blood cholesterol.
On an average, women experience their first attack when they are around 70 years old and the chances of getting an attack increases as the woman crosses this age threshold. However, based on heart attack and age statistics, it has been found that each year in the US around twenty thousand women, who are below 45 years, end up getting hospitalized due to heart attacks. While, women who are aged 65 years and above number around 370,000 each year.
As mentioned earlier, heart attacks are more often seen in people who are older. However, even the younger lot can have attacks that require hospitalization. In the US, three out of 100,000 people aged between 0 years and 34 years end up being hospitalized due to heart attacks.
