Cardiovascular disease is a common term given to different illnesses related to the blood vessels all around the heart or the heart itself. Generally, people often use the terms cardiovascular diseases and heart diseases interchangeably, but both refer to different things.
Mostly, all cardiovascular diseases actually deal with the clotting or blocking of the arteries. Due to insufficient supply of oxygen to the heart, it fails to pump properly leading to strokes, heart failure or heart attack. Such conditions can be fatal resulting in death.
Medical science has made phenomenal advancement in the field of cardiology, but even then it is still considered as one of the most dangerous diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of deaths not only in America, but also in most of the advanced countries. In spite of al the technological improvements, not much could be achieved in reducing the rate of deaths caused due to heart failure.
Cholesterol is the main factor that aids in the development of clogged or the blocked arteries. When cholesterol goes beyond certain levels, it starts accumulating in the arteries restricting the proper flow of blood to the heart, and eventually giving rise to all kinds of heart ailments. In order to treat this type of problem, there are certain medicines which do not allow the arteries to get blocked by reducing the levels of cholesterol in the blood stream. In order to restrict the occurrence of heart attack in future, a blood test known as lipid profile test needs to be done. This investigation determines the levels of cholesterol in the blood stream. When found more than the recommended level, preventive medicines are being given to lower the level to acceptable limits.
To prevent occurrence of heart diseases, one must adhere to a healthy lifestyle which involves healthy diet, regular exercise and avoidance of food that tend to increase cholesterol levels.
