Where Is The Taj Mahal Located ?

Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site and deemed as one of the seven wonders of the world, can seen in the Indian city of Agra. It is considered as the epitome of love and devotion. Agra is in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, and is close to India’s capital, Delhi. During the Moghal rule, Agra was a very powerful city. The city has been mentioned in great epics, such as the Mahabharata, and also was the capital of the Moghal Empire during the medieval times. The emperors, who ruled the empire from 1526 to 1658, were Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jehan, in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the major tourist attractions in India and more than 1 million people come to see it from all over the world every year. Shah Jehan, wanted a peaceful place to build the Taj Mahal and the location was well chosen in those days. It sits on the banks of Yamuna River. The emperor could see the Mahal from his fort. The strategic location on the banks of the river not only was scenic, but practical because it provided the water during the construction of the Mahal.

When you enter the Taj Mahal, you are greeted by a sprawling and well manicured garden. The complex has a mosque and a number of other buildings. It has a guest house and a mausoleum which contains the tombs of Shah Jehan and Mumtaz Mahal. There are four water ways in front of the garden. It is claimed that 50 percent of the beauty of the Taj comes from its location, the banks of Yamuna River and the beautifully manicured gardens. The mausoleum is intricately carved and embellished with colors.

Agra is one of the most populated cities. However, the Taj can be easily accessed via small transport. It is also well connected through railways and airport. There are three main railway stations here, namely the Agra Cantonment, Agra Fort and the Raja Ki Mandi. The Taj is only 10 to 15 minutes walking distance from the Agra Fort Station. Instead of taking a cab or auto rickshaw, you can walk through the bazaars to reach this mausoleum. Foreign tourists have to get to Delhi and the easiest way to get to Agra from Delhi is by a flight. You will also save of a lot of time and can spend more time admiring the beauty and architecture of the Taj Mahal instead.
